My husband and I are planning to bring our daughter to Disney World in 2012. Our vacation schedule is very flexible. What is the best time of year that is warm enough for swimming, but not extremely crowded? We want to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is a wonderful resort. I've stayed there several times both in the Jambo house and in the Kidani Village. love randomly seeing zebras from the window as you walk down the hall to your room. My one comment is that I feel the AKL is one of the very Disney World resorts where you really benefit from having a car. Because the resort is relatively far away from the Magic Kingdom, having a car makes your travel a bit easier than the Disney bus system.

The very lowest crowd times of the year are September and January. I've been to Walt Disney World many times in January and have experienced everything from low 80s to below freezing. If swimming is a priority, I wouldn't go in January because of the unpredictability of the temperatures. You can absolutely swim in September, the weather is very consistently warm or even hot then.

However, if I had to choose my absolute idea time to visit WDW, I would choose early October. The crowds are still quite low, the weather is generally fine, and you have the added bonus of it being Food & Wine Festival time at Epcot. The usually wonderful food offerings at Epcot become even more spectacular.

Good luck with your planning. Be sure to ask the Moms if you have any additional questions.
