My husband, myself and 6 yr old are going a a 7 night on the Fantasy in January. While in Grand Cayman we are considering the Family Day at Tiki Beach excursion. Can we save $ and take a cab instead?

    Welcome aboard, Teri Lynn!

The ship will anchor out in the bay at Grand Cayman and guests will go ashore by taking tender boats. This process takes longer than in other ports where you'll simply walk off the ship. Again, when you come back to the port area, you'll wait in (what we've always experienced as) a very long line to get back onto a tender boat before heading back to the ship. I say this so that you know that if you head off on your own in Grand Cayman, you'll need to be very cautious of your time so that you do not miss the last tender back to the ship.

When guests go on one of Disney Cruise Line's Port Adventures, the ship always knows where you are, and is made aware if an adventure is running long or stuck in traffic, so guests are protected from being left behind. This is especially important in tendering ports like Grand Cayman.

All of that being said, yes, you can take a taxi for around $5 per person each way to any number of beaches along Seven Mile Beach, including Tiki Beach. I believe that you will need to pay to then rent chairs and umbrellas if you go on your own. You might find that doing all of this on your own will save you a few dollars.

For the low price of this particular adventure, I would highly recommend going with Disney on this one just to play it safe and be able to relax knowing that they've planned all the details, will be driving you in a reliable, comfortable ride, providing you with everything you need at the beach and getting you back with plenty of time before you need to re-board. Plus, you'll get to tender from the ship to the dock with your whole adventure group, most likely allowing you off the ship before other guests, saving a lot of time in the morning. All of these are big pluses when tendering, Teri Lynn!

I hope that helps as you continue planning! Let me know if you have further questions before you set sail!
