My husband & I met while we both worked at Disneyland we were married in 1980. We would like to celebrate our 50th at WDW with our children and grandchildren in June 2030. When can I start to plane our trip?

    Hi Deb,

Welcome to planDisney! Wow! 50 years! What an amazing celebration this will be! I love the fact that you’re starting to think about how you’ll celebrate in advance – you’re a person after my planner heart. The fact that you’re planning to celebrate such a huge milestone at Walt Disney World after both of you have worked at Disneyland is just so sweet. Sharing this celebration with your children and grandchildren makes it even sweeter. I am honored to help you start planning such a magical visit.

The good news is that you can start mentally planning for this now. Start thinking about where you’ll want to stay. With a large, multigenerational family trip you’ll want to make sure that you choose a Disney Resorts Collection hotel that’s comfortable enough for everyone. Consider either booking multiple rooms or a Deluxe Villa. Multiple standard rooms can be requested close together so that your family’s rooms can be nearby or even next door in some cases pending availability. Deluxe Villas are much larger rooms (1-, 2-, 3-bedroom villas as well as cabins and bungalows) that sleep more people and feel like a home away from home with amenities like washers & dryers, full kitchens and open living spaces.

Once you’ve decided where you’ll stay, think about how many days you want your vacation to be. How many days will you visit the theme parks? Will you add a few resort-only days? Will you want to add any Enchanting Extras to make your milestone trip even more memorable? I know for sure you’ll want to add Memory Maker so that you can download all your family’s PhotoPass photos from your visit for one price. Deb, it’s still pretty early but since a dream is a wish your heart makes, start putting your dream’s plan in place.

As far as booking goes, we never really know for sure when Disney will open the reservations for any given year. In the past, they’ve opened bookings no later than late spring/early summer during the prior year. Of course, this is subject to change but it will be fun for you to keep an eye on Disney Parks Blog for the next few years to see when the 2028 and 2029 bookings open! When your magical time arrives, try to remember to check the Special Offers page before you book – all the current deals and discounts will be listed there.

The most important thing for you to remember is that planning the trip can be half the fun. Enjoy this important research phase of planning your trip. I’m hoping you have the best time celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary at The Most Magical Place on Earth with your family. Remember to come see us here at planDisney at any point along the way – we’d love to help you think through your plans! Until then, TTFN… ta-ta for now!
