Hi, my husband has a gluten and dairy allergy and I'm wondering how to order his food when dinning.

    Hi Abby,

Disney is incredibly well versed in accommodating guests with food allergies and sensitivities. Gluten and dairy issues are common and the Disney restaurants have lots of experience helping guests like your husband. Your strategy starts when you make your dining reservations. If you reserve online, be sure to look for the box on the form that asks if you have special dietary needs. Similarly, if you reserve over the phone, ask your reservationist to make a note of your husband's allergies on your file. This will alert the restaurant to your needs in advance.

When you arrive at the restaurant, remind both the hostess and your server about the allergy. They will arrange for a chef to come out into the dining room to speak with you. The chef will discuss your options, pointing out appropriate menu items and informing you about the ingredients of every dish. If the standard menu items don't work for you, then the chef will prepare something special that meets your specifications. Because of the personal attention from the chefs, table service restaurants sometimes work better than counter service restaurants for guests with complicated dining needs. The counter service restaurants do have lists of menu item ingredients, but they will not be able to customize your food.

There is more information on dining with allergies at WDW on the wonderful independent websites disneyfoodblog.com, allears.net, and allergyeats.com.

    Good luck with your planning!
