My husband is a former Marine but not retired, he is a Department of Defense employee. Does he still qualify for military discounts? Also since we are planning on a July 2015 cruise, if I book early and find a military discount later, can I switch plans?

Welcome aboard, Andrea! I'm so happy to hear that your family is considering a magical cruise with Disney Cruise Line. Thank you for your husband's service to our country, and thanks to your whole family too, as I know that it is not easy being a military family, but please know how much it is appreciated!

I hope you do find the perfect cruise to enjoy with your family, as you certainly deserve it! I called the agents at Disney Cruise Line to find out details about who is eligible for the U.S. Military Rates. All active and retired U.S. Military personnel are eligible, and this includes the Department of Defense personnel, including National Security and Secret Service but not Homeland Security. Your husband would need to present his I.D. that says Department of Defense.

You are certainly welcome to book a cruise whenever you'd like, and should you find that you want to switch or apply a discount at a later date, you can give the agents at Disney Cruise Line a call to do that at 800-951-3532. Depending on the type of discount, you may need to rearrange your stateroom reservation, but you should still be able to keep your sail date should a military discount for it later become available. In fact, a few years back, we had a reservation for a seven-night Mexican Riviera sailing with Disney all booked. Later, a Kids Sail Free Promotion was offered for our cruise, so I was able to apply that to our existing reservation, though we did have to switch staterooms on the reservation. Easy as can be! Just be sure to read the cancelation policy as you book, in case you decide to cancel or switch.

I hope you enjoy planning this well deserved cruise with Captain Mickey and his crew, Andrea. Please stop back and let me know if you have any other questions as you continue to plan! I'm happy to help!
