Hello Jennifer,
Thanks for bringing your question to planDisney, and please pass along my sincerest thanks to your husband for his service. We appreciate the sacrifices he has made for our country. I'm not sure if you have visited Walt Disney World Resort together before, but I hope you'll be able to enjoy a visit together soon. It's truly one of my favorite places to disconnect from the day-to-day stresses of the world and reconnect with my family.
If you have visited and utilized
Disability Access Service (DAS) on past trips, the registration process will be a bit different for your next visit. Guests requesting DAS will now need to complete an online virtual chat beginning 30 days before their arrival. Tickets and/or theme park reservations will need to be linked for the guest requesting the service as well as those accompanying them. At this time the service is for a
maximum party size of 4, which includes the eligible guest and up to 3 additional people.
DAS is designed for those who cannot wait in a traditional queue due to a developmental disability such as autism. However, there is no specific diagnosis that qualifies for the service. Your husband will likely need to explain why the service would be beneficial and may be asked about his daily life at home. Cast Members will review the request and can loop in additional medical partners as needed. If approved, your husband will be able to request a return time for eligible experiences, one at a time, and wait comfortably in another area of the park.
If your husband is not approved for DAS, Cast Members will review
alternate accommodations available to your party. This may include mobility devices,
attraction queue re-entry and more. Again, there is not a one-size-fits-all approach to approvals, nor is there a single alternate accommodation that works for every guest. I recommend reviewing the
Accessibility Planning Guide & Recommendations as well as the
Sensory Experience Details so you're prepared to ask questions during the video chat.
Jennifer, if you have additional concerns you are also welcome to contact disability.services@disneyparks.com. In the meantime, please come back and visit us again with more planning questions. We're always happy to help.
Magic and memories,
Amy
