Hi Lynn!
Welcome to planDisney!
I’m happy to report that I’ve done that exact thing! For a while, my oldest was too nervous to ride in a vehicle by himself, even though he was technically old enough. So, we chatted with the Cast Member at the entrance to the queues to set up
Rider Switch. By using Rider Switch in that situation, either my husband or I would ride twice, and each of my 3 kids would ride once.
The Cast Members have always been very helpful in making sure my whole family can ride comfortably, even if that means Rider Switch is being used to have an adult ride twice instead of a kid.
Since all 3 of you will have access to the Lightning Lane by purchasing
Lightning Lane Premier Pass (pending availability), you’ll all be able to enter the attraction through the Lightning Lane (instead of the first group needing to wait in the standby queue, like Rider Switch is typically used). That will help things move a lot quicker! Just make sure to set up Rider Switch before the first group enters.
It’s good to note that, according to the
Walt Disney World Resort Property Rules, kids 7 years old and older can ride in their own ride vehicle. So, if your 8-year-old is up for the adventure of riding on their own for attractions that only seat 2 across, you could all ride at the same time!
I hope you have the best trip! If you have any other questions, feel free to reach back out. We’re always happy to help!
