Are the hours of operation for the monorail between the Magic Kingdom and Epcot based off of the MK hours or Epcot's? I keep reading it runs an hour after the park closes but which park? The night we are going there is a 2 hr difference between the 2.

Hi Kim! Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question!

I recently stayed at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and loved the simplicity of traveling by monorail. The Walt Disney World Monorail System is actually made up of three separate beams with their own routes and stops. All three originate from the Transportation and Ticket Center, located near Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

The Epcot Monorail beam circles between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Epcot. This beam opens one hour prior to Epcot opening and closes one hour after Epcot closes.

The Resort Monorail beam makes stops at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Magic Kingdom theme park and Disney’s Contemporary Resort before returning to station at the Transportation and Ticket Center. This beam opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes one hour after Magic Kingdom closes.

The Express Monorail beam bypasses the resort stops and quickly delivers Guests to and from their pixie dusted day at Magic Kingdom. This beam opens one hour prior to Magic Kingdom opening and closes one hour after Magic Kingdom closes.

Please note that this is subject to change at any time. Should the Monorail System be closed at the time you need it, there will be buses and watercraft on hand to deliver you to the Transportation and Ticket System or to your Disney Resort hotel. The Walt Disney World Monorail System hours will be posted daily at the Transportation and Ticket Center. You can also ask any monorail operator or guest relations office for the hours during your time of travel. I hope you and your family enjoy your stay and have fun riding high in the sky on the Walt Disney World Monorail!
