    Hi, Hoosier dad - was at CBR in June - 1st WDW vacation Loved it! Is the extra $ for deluxe hotel worth it. Was thinking AKL b/c son is animal lover. Would be shorter trip (3 nights instead of 5) but would be June in 2010 b/c of kids school.

    Erika,

    I do like the Deluxe resorts for different reasons. Mostly I enjoy the locations that they provide, including their transportation options.

    The funny thing is, I love the Animal Kingdom Lodge, but would not pick it normally. While I love the atmosphere, I prefer many of the other resorts for their location and transportation options. Here is what I like about them;

    Contemporary/Polynesian/Grand Floridian - I love being on the monorail loop with the convenient travel to Epcot, Magic Kingdom, and the other resorts.

    Beach Club/Yacht Club/BoardWalk Inn - I love to boat to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, as well as the proximity to the BoardWalk.

    Wilderness Lodge - I love the slight lower rates, and the boat access to the Magic Kingdom.

    With a son who is an animal lover, perhaps the Animal Kingdom Lodge it is the right choice. But only pick this resort if you can afford the savannah views, otherwise you can stay somewhere with better transportation, and simply visit here to eat at Boma or Jiko and still get the same animal viewing fun from the public areas of the resort.

    Please feel free to send me any follow-up questions!

    Have a magical experience!
