In all honesty, what are your thoughts about renting a car while staying on property?

    Hi Kathel,

If you asked this question of all the Moms Panelists, I'm sure that you'd get a different answer from each of us. It's a very hot topic in Disney fan circles.

Personally, I've changed my mind on this a number of times. I've finally decided that the real answer is "it depends." My choice of whether or not to rent a car depends on where I'm staying and how many meal reservations I have at the resorts.

If you're staying on the monorail line (Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian) and will be primarily visiting the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, then there's no need for a car. Similarly, if you're staying in the Epcot resorts area (Yacht & Beach Clubs, Boardwalk) and will mostly be visiting Epcot and Hollywood Studios, then there's no need for a car either.

But if you're staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (particularly the Kidani section) or the Saratoga Springs Treehouses, then a car is an absolute imperative. I also think that renting a car at the larger moderate resorts can be quite helpful, simply because it can take so long walk to the food court if you're at a distant outbuilding.

Please write back and let us know where you're staying and I we'll be able to give you more targeted advice given your own situation.
