Welcome aboard, LeeAnne! I'm a homeschooling mom too! There are so many educational
activities both onboard the Fantasy and in the exciting Ports of Call!
Here are some of my homeschooling kids' favorites before, after and during our cruises with Disney:
Art: Disney Animation, Creating a Character
Cooking: Anyone Can Cook - Learn and taste new recipes from the chef!
Engineering: Piston Cup Challenge or Mickey 200 - These are my son's favorite activities, since he wants to be an engineer. Kids get to design their own cars and then race them!
Science: Super Sloppy Science - learn about polymers and make Flubber, or learn about volcanos, build one, and watch it explode!
Language Arts/Spelling/Vocab: Assign a journal in the afternoon to wind down, so your kids can record their memories of the cruise! Discover the Latin roots of the water coaster onboard - why is it called the AquaDuck? In the month leading up, assign ship-related words like forward, aft, midship, embarkation, disembarkation, voyage, restaurant, all-inclusive, atrium, berth, bow, cay (like Castaway Cay - pronounced KEY), rotational dining, duty-free, verandah, funnel, port, knot, muster, passenger, capacity, starboard, tender. The kids will feel like experienced sailors!
In the Ports of Call, we choose
Port Adventures that include history and culture of that country. You've got all year leading up to add learning, research, and geography about these islands into your current curriculum. There's nothing quite like reading about a topic or place in a book and then actually going there to experience it! I love this about homeschooling and sailing with Disney! Have a magical and educational cruise, LeeAnne!
