Hi Brian!
Welcome to planDisney!
In order to book your next Lightning Lane during your park day, everyone from your party will need to scan into the ride first. So, in the case of using
Rider Switch with
Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you will need to wait until the second group scans in before booking another Lightning Lane.
Whenever we use Rider Switch with our Lightning Lanes, I tend to ride in the first group (since I’m usually our Lightning Lane manager–sounds so official!). Then, as soon as I see the second group scan in, I’ll hop on the app and book our next Lightning Lane while they’re enjoying the ride.
It’s good to note that some attractions have two scan-in points in the queue. And you won’t be able to book your next Lightning Lane until everyone in the party has scanned into both of those. Since I always ride first, I have a heads up on whether or not the attraction requires two scan-in points. If it does, I just make sure to wait a bit to allow the riders to make their way through the queue.
With all that being said, while this has been my experience in the past, protocols are always subject to change. So, it won’t hurt to check the app after the first group scans in to be sure. I'm all for seeing if you can book earlier!
Your
My Disney Experience app will let you know when you’re eligible to book your next Lightning Lane. You’ll find it right there on the home screen or under the Lightning Lane section when you click the 3 lines in the bottom right corner. As you go through the prompts, it will specify which members of your party are ready to book their next Lightning Lane and which (if any) aren't.
I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions as you continue to plan!
