Ahoy, Ashantia!
Congratulations on your second Disney Cruise! I always love helping a fellow Georgian with cruise questions so thank you for reaching out to us!
I'm glad you asked this question because I do have some helpful information to share with you about the Oceaneer Bands used in the
Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab aboard Disney Cruise Line. These bands look like the ones used at the Walt Disney World Resort, but work a bit differently on the ship. They will show the counselors pertinent information about your children and will be scanned when they enter and leave the club or lab. They can also give the youth counselors a general idea of where they are playing in the space if you need to locate them while they are checked in. Since they are used for security reasons, a small round clasp is in place to keep your sailors from taking the band on and off until the last night of the cruise. For that reason, the band can be placed on the wrist or ankle so it's in the most comfortable spot. There are black and red clasps and the red denotes a child may take medication or has an allergy. With all of that being said, the good news is the band, which is decorated with Captain Mickey and Disney Cruise Line decals, can be purchased at the end of the sailing as a keepsake for around $13.00 (pricing always subject to change). My son has kept every one of his Oceaneer Bands and has quite the collection to remember his past few cruises. The option to keep the band is completely up to you, but it's very easy to do. Just let the youth counselors know when you check out your children for the final time, and they will cut off the security clasp for them. The bands will be charged to your stateroom account so it's as simple as that!
Thank you again for stopping by, Ashantia! Please let us know if you have any other questions.
