Ahoy Susan! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
Let's talk fish extenders! I love the timing of your question as today I just started working on my fish extender gifts for our Mediterranean cruise on the
Disney Magic this May. When I saw your question pop up I just had to take a break and chat with you!
The fish extender phenomena and gift exchange is not an official
Disney Cruise Line activity. It was actually started by a Disney fan website and the members posting on their popular DISboards. Guests wanted a way to get to know the other guests they were sailing with prior to their cruise. In doing so, they created this fun gift exchange as a way to meet their cruise mates. The creator of the exchange gifted bags for participants to hang on the fish plaques outside their stateroom door and boom! The fish extender fun was born!
To participate in a fish extender exchange, you can search for your cruise date and your ship on Facebook. Typically someone who is sailing on your itinerary will have already set up a Facebook group so you can get to know your cruise mates and participate in not only fish extender exchanges but ornament, candy and even sock exchanges!
Although I don't know the origination of decorating doors onboard, I can imagine the magnets arose out of necessity. Since nothing can be affixed to the stateroom doors, magnets allow people to decorate within the guidelines and beyond
Disney Cruise Line's In-Room Gifts and Shopping when celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, retirements and more.
I hope you enjoy being a part of all the extra magic onboard Disney Cruise Line! Bon voyage! Angie
