Hi, So my family is coming to Disneyland for the week of New Years. We were thinking of doing New Years at California Adventure but we have to leave from 430pm-8pm to see a hockey game. Will we be able to get back in even if the park gets to capacity?

    Hello there, Chad!

Welcome to planDisney and thanks for bringing your question to us! Wow, it sounds like you have quite a packed New Year's Eve itinerary for this year! Have you already secured your Park Reservations? If not, I would urge you to do so as soon as possible because New Year's Eve is one of the busiest days of the year for the Disneyland Resort.

To answer your question, Chad, if you left the Park and then attempted to re-enter later that evening, you would unfortunately be subject to park capacity. Ordinarily, I would say that it is unlikely most times of the year, but New Year's Eve can be unpredictable and if there is one day that the Parks might close, it would be that day. My advice would be to consider carefully what you'd like to experience that night. You would possibly run the risk of not being allowed back into the Parks if you left. I think it's less likely for Disney California Adventure to fill up over Disneyland Park, though.

No formal announcements have been made about activities at the Disneyland Resort for New Year's Eve, but last year, we enjoyed a special presentation of ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2023’ with special parties featured around the Disneyland Resort. Be sure to follow the Disney Parks Blog to be among the first to hear the news when it's announced this year! Based on last year's festivities, you'll be treated to multiple New Year's Eve Countdowns at the World of Color Viewing Area, Hollywood Land, and Paradise Gardens Park.

Chad, I hope that was helpful for you and I wish you the best of luck in your choices. No matter what you choose, it sounds like you're going to have an unforgettable New Year's Eve to welcome 2024! If you need anything else from us, please write again anytime! You're always welcome at planDisney. Until next time!

Wishing You a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
