Hi Alison,
A bit of the "realistic" part of your question depends on where you're staying. If you're at a condo that's 20 miles from WDW, then a mid-day trip back might not be realistic. But if you're staying in one of the WDW resort hotels, then yes, I'd say it's not only realistic but also pretty necessary. In my personal experience, stroller-age kids (and most adults) can really only do 4-6 consecutive hours in the parks before they need a decent break. A nap or a swim can be incredibly refreshing when you've been walking in the Florida heat for a while.
Disney itself rents double strollers, but none of them recline. There are, however, many outside vendors that serve the Orlando area which do rent reclining doubles. Three of them have been give special permission to pick up and deliver to the Disney hotel bell services desks so that you don't have to be there when the stroller arrives. These stroller rental agencies are:
- Kingdom Strollers: (407) 271-5301
- Magic Strollers: (866) 866-6177
- Orlando Stroller Rentals: (800) 281-0884
They also have websites (Google them) where you can see photos and pricing of what's available. For more details about the stroller situation at WDW you may want to check out an article on the independent website blog.touringplans.com. Search there for "Frequently Asked Questions About Strollers at Disney World."
Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
