Hi!II am visiting in May w/dining for the family. For a kids DP, if you don't like the "kids meal" options at a restaurant/counter and you opt to buy something else, what happens to those kids dining credits? Can I substitute them for something?

    Hi Barbara,

When you are on the Disney Dining Plan, you are welcome to supplement your meals with additional food purchases. For example, you are always welcome to pay cash for an appetizer, extra dessert, adult beverage, or alternative food.

So, if your child doesn't like the kids' meal options at a restaurant, you are certainly welcome to pay cash for an adult meal instead. If you don't use the meal credit, it will remain in your account. Unfortunately, there is no way to substitute that credit for something else. However, you could use it on something like a portable breakfast quick service option like croissants or cereal that you could take with you and use as a snack later in the day.

I completely understand that some kids are fussy eaters; I have one of those myself. Perhaps your best strategy is to avoid problems by dining at restaurants that have food your child enjoys. There are some substantial variations in the food served at different restaurants, even at quick service venues. The menus of all Disney restaurants are readily available on the independent website all ears.net. You can also find photos of much of the food served at Walt Disney World at another independent site disneyfoodblog.com. With a bit of planning, I'm sure you'll be able to find places to eat with food your child enjoys. This will prevent you from having unused credits in your account.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know if you have additional questions.
