Hey! We will be sailing away with the Disney Dream in April 2014! How soon in advance do you think I should book a hotel for the night before the cruise departs either at a Disney resort or in Port Canaveral? Thanks so much!

Welcome aboard, Becky! So, this time next year, you'll be setting sail on the high seas with Captain Mickey and his crew? That will be one very magical trip. I bet you are already getting excited!

I think it's a great idea to stay overnight either at one of the Walt Disney World resorts or in Port Canaveral the night before you embark on the ship. Another idea is to simply stay at the airport hotel so you can still take advantage of Disney Cruise Line's ground transportation to and from the port. This is available between the airport and port and between Walt Disney World's resorts and the port. There is an additional fee of about $35 per person each way, but I promise it is well worth it. Disney takes care of all of the details. You can add this to your cruise reservation by speaking with your travel agent or one of Disney Cruise Line's agents.

I'd watch for special prices at any of the hotels and resorts over the next few months. I don't think you'll have trouble getting a one night reservation at any of those hotels or resorts, but you might want to keep an eye on the Walt Disney World website to watch for specials, or the websites of the other hotels you are considering. I think a few months in advance should be absolutely fine for making those reservations. Maybe shoot for January to have the reservations squared away. You can always make them earlier and cancel or change if need be. Just check each hotel's cancellation policy first.

Have fun as you begin this year of preparation for your cruise, Becky!
