Bright Suns, Mike, and welcome back to planDisney! Making your own custom astromech unit is such a fun way to get immersed in
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. And it can also double as home decor—I have mine displayed on a shelf in my living room!
Now, let’s talk about how you can enjoy your day at
Hollywood Studios without needing to carry around any extra cargo. And, after all, we know from The Mandalorian that not everyone loves droids as much as we do!
Currently, there isn’t an option to send merchandise back to your
Disney Resort hotel room, but you can pay to ship your droids home if you don’t want to bring them on the plane. If you go this route, definitely take some time to enjoy your astromech units in Batuu before sending them on their way. The droids interact with other droids and different areas throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. There’s also an area with mats outside
Droid Depot where you can safely take your new pals for a spin and meet fellow astromech enthusiasts!
If you’d rather not ship your droids home, you can also
rent a locker to store them until you’re ready to leave Hollywood Studios. It’s nice to be able to enjoy the droids throughout your stay and not cut their vacation short! My sister and I let ours interact in our resort hotel room, took pictures of them at the pool, and even brought them on the
PeopleMover at
Magic Kingdom.
Speaking of pictures, be sure to look for the many
PhotoPass photographers around Batuu so you can get some photos with your new astromech pals! Ask if they have any Magic Shots available, and you might find a galactic surprise in your photos. My family also really loves the Super Zoom Magic Shot near
Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo. And if you really want to make sure to get lots of great pictures with your droids, you might be interested in a personalized 20-minute
Capture Your Moment session. The PhotoPass photographers are great at finding all the good picture spots and angles!
And finally, my advice for making an astromech unit is to take your time choosing the droid parts from the conveyor belt so you can really savor the workshop experience. Once you move to the assembly stage, things finish up pretty quickly!
I hope you have so much fun building your astromech units and enjoy your time on Batuu! If you have any other questions, you’re always welcome at planDisney.
