Just yesterday I took the
creme de creme of Disney tours:
Backstage Magic. This is a 7-hour long behind-the-scenes look at three of the parks (lunch is included). Our fabulous tour guide Nancy showed us costume design areas, the princess wig styling room, ride repair and construction areas, the wedding floral arrangers, cast member support areas, and countless other hidden gems. I am a real Disney veteran and I learned dozens of new facts about the way the parks are run. This is not an inexpensive tour, but there are often discounts available for Disney Visa card holders, Disney annual pass holders, DVC members, and others. If you decide to book this tour, be sure to ask about possible discounts. I found it to be worth every penny. There is a shorter version of this, Keys to the Kingdom, that only focuses on the Magic Kingdom.
I have also taken the Behind the Seeds tour at the Land pavilion at Epcot. If you have any gardeners in your group, you should be sure to check this one out. You get to learn detailed information about the innovative ways they take care of plants at the Land. We got to release ladybugs for pest control, sample a Mickey-shaped cucumber grown at Epcot, and see a tomato tree up close and personal. This tour lasts about an hour and has recently been priced at less than $20 (though this could always change).
There are also a number of wonderful tours at the Animal Kingdom in which you learn about animal care and operations there. For reviews of these tours, try going to allearsnet.com and searching on "tours."
