Hi Heather! We're visiting Disney for the first time in May;can't wait! I have a quick question. What's your opinion of taking a camcorder into the parks? Thanks so much for your help. I hope this is the 1st of many Disney vacations for my family!

    Rebecca,

I can just feel your excitement, and I'm so happy for you!  I hope your family has a great time and goes on to enjoy many more Disney vacations!

For your first trip I'd most definitely take a camcorder.  We've been many times and we still take ours with us.  We don't take it everywhere and we don't record every day, but there are so many things that I'm glad we have on tape.  Capturing your children' first meeting with their hero, or dancing with their favorite princess, or hugging Mickey for the first time - priceless!  And if your child falls in love with a certain ride (as my girls have done with It's A Small World), it will be nice to have the ability to record the whole ride and enjoy it at home.

If your camcorder is very large you might consider working a tiny one into your budget.  Some friends recently bought a mini version for around $150 that would be very easy to carry along, taking up no more space than a digital camera.

Whether you do it on camcorder or film, be sure to take as many pictures as you can.  our first trip we were so busy taking it all in that we forgot to take pictures, and we don't have nearly as many as I'd like.  Capture the memories!
