Hi, Heather. Staying at AKL in late August and wondering for character breakfasts at the Comtemporary and O'hana, what is the best way to get there? Bus to MK, then Monorail? How early do the buses run, and how much time should I give us?

    Hi Scott!

If you have a rental car then the fastest way would be to drive directly to the meal.  However, you cannot leave your car at the resort while you go to a park, so if you plan on hitting Magic Kingdom afterward you'd have to move your car again.  For this reason, we generally use the Disney bus system.

Buses are generally running one hour before park opening, as early as 7 am.  We would catch a bus to the Magic Kingdom and then ride the resort monorail over to the Contemporary or Polynesian.  I would allow 45 minutes to an hour for this.  It should take less time, but early is better than late.

This will only work if your ADR is later.  If you have the very early reservations (7:50, for example), then I suggest visiting the concierge desk in your resort's lobby.  They will be happy to arrange transportation for you so that you make it to the restaurant on time.

I don't know if you've ever stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, but you're in for a real treat.  It is a beautiful resort - rich and exotic, and one of my favorites along with Wilderness Lodge and Beach Club.  In fact, we will be at the Wilderness Lodge at the same time.  We love it so much we purchased a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) membership there!  The textures and smells in the main building are just amazing.  Have a wonderful vacation!
