Heather, I really want to take my family to Mickey’s Backyard BBQ when we go in May, but am nervous that my children (4,2&1) will be "overlooked" by the characters. Have you gone there with your girls? What has been your experience? Thanks fo

    Maura,

That will definitely not be the case!  Character meals are for children of all ages, and Disney recognizes this.  The characters will spend time with everyone in your group - kids of all ages!  (My girls get a kick out of the characters goofing around with Mommy and Daddy, just like we get a kick of out seeing them with the girls - it's a win-win.)

At Mickey's Backyard BBQ, the experience is mainly for kids.  Not many adults would choose to go there by themselves, as it's even more child-centered than your average character meal.  The dancing with the characters is a huge hit!  Be prepared though - the dance floor is very chaotic at that time, so stick with your little ones.

The characters and their cast member handlers do a great job of making the rounds on the dance floor so they can hug or dance with all the children.  This is not the place to get autographs though!  Make sure your kids know that up front so they aren't disappointed.

Arriving early will help get you a seat near the dance floor, but once the characters come out you won't be at your table anyway, so I don't think that is critical.  During the rope tricks the children are invited to come up and sit at the edge of the dance floor, so again your table location isn't critical because they will be offered a good view.

    Have a fun vacation!
