Hi Heather! I'll be in Disney 12/28/08 - 1/2/09 with DH, mom, DS2.5 & DD(9 mo). ADR for Whis. Can, Coral Reef, 50's Prime. We're going to Chef Mickey's for breakfast. I'm worried Coral Reef may be too boring for my son. Your opinion? Better sugges

    Catherine,

I think the Coral Reef is a great choice...for older kids.  The atmosphere is very unique and beautiful, and fascinating for my 5.5 year old, but at 2.5 I think the excitement may wear off during your meal.  Add that to the fact that I consider their food only average, and I personally would consider another restaurant.  (We always do)

With little ones, we've always found it easier to opt for character dining, so the little ones are happy and entertained while we dine.   In Epcot that isn't such an easy prospect, since character meals in this park are scarce and likely booked by now.  However, in Germany the Biergarten restaurant has live entertainment (singing and dancing) which your son might enjoy.  In Morocco at Marrakesh there are modestly dressed belly dancers that are very entertaining as well.  The San Angel Inn in Mexico has an interesting and beautiful atmosphere, although like the Coral Reef it may not be enough to captivate your son for an entire meal.

All is not lost if you decide to go to the Coral Reef anyway.  Even if your son gets bored, you can be prepared with goodies like silly putty, play doh, crayons and paper, legos, etc to squeeze out a few more minutes of semi-peaceful dining time.  Can you tell I've been there, done that?  :)

    Have a great vacation!
