Hi Heather! My husband and I have 2 small children, aged 2 and 7. Would the animal kingdom resort be appropriate for them, or can it be overwhelming with the animals and size of the hotel? What is the decor like in the rooms? Thanks!

    Philip,

I would absolutely recommend the Animal Kingdom Lodge! My daughters are 9, 7, and 5 and they love that resort, and have since they were 2, actually! In fact, we love it so much that when we purchased DVC we chose the Animal Kingdom Lodge as our home resort.

The hotel is large, that's true, but honestly, they all are. Port Orleans French Quarter is the only resort where I can feel that I am in a noticeably smaller venue. Otherwise, they're all quite large, just different themeing.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is home to some of the finest restaurants of any resort hotel...we are especially fond of breakfast at Boma and dinner at Jiko...but their counter service restaurant has great sandwiches and flatbreads as well. We sometimes feel that counter service locations are lacking in the deluxe resorts, but not so here. They also have an excellent bakery, and we often purchase pastries to have in the room for a light breakfast.

The animals are obviously a huge draw here, and they do not disappoint! If you opt for a savannah view room, it's pretty spectacular to wake up to a giraffe right outside your window! If you would prefer to conserve that money in the budget for something else, don't worry - there are a ton of open viewing areas where you can watch the animals. These usually include rocking chairs and at night you can even use night vision goggles (provided) for a closer look!

The decor is authentic - rustic and tribal touches - and I think it's beautiful. The website Allears.net is the best place for you to see detailed photos of this (or any other) resort - they have extensive indoor and outdoor photo galleries.

    Hope that helps!
