Hi Brittney,
Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question! We're so glad you're here.
If you want my two cents on
pressed penny machines, you came to the right place! I'm sure I don't need to change your mind on pressed coins being incredible souvenirs to take home from the
Walt Disney World Resort. The link I've provided gives you locations of these little beauties.
Brittney, I was just visiting the Walt Disney World Resort a couple of weeks ago and noticed both types of machines that you mention-card machines and those that still take the coins that you bring with you to press. So yes, please still bring your quarters and pennies to cash in on these awesome little memories!
I'm sure you already know this (but just in case you weren't aware) pennies minted in 1982 or before are nearly solid copper. Pennies minted in 1983 or after are mostly zinc that is coated in copper. The zinc pennies can turn a very dark color, while the nearly solid copper ones will stay shiny (like Tamatoa of course) as they age. I think it's worth taking a few moments to sort out those pre-1982 pennies and shine them up before you leave to have gorgeous pressed pennies to bring home with you.
One more quick reminder to bring your coins with you should you ever vacation on Disney Cruise Line from Port Canaveral, FL. There are six coins to choose from within the cruise terminal that are only accessible prior to boarding your cruise ship.
Please come back and visit us again with all of your Walt Disney World Resort vacation planning questions.
Best Wishes,
Amy S.
