I’ve heard that Lookout Cay now has a formal 5K with a medal as well. Is this true? We would like to do it when we go in December!

Hi there, Kristin! Thanks for sailing by planDisney with your question!

The Castaway Cay 5K is one of my favorite Disney Cruise Line traditions, and like you, I was so hoping to add a Lookout Cay 5K medal to my collection soon! I visited Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point back in June, and at that time, there wasn’t an official 5K in place just yet. My friend and I did, however, explore the Discovery Nature Trail, which gives Guests the chance to enjoy Eleuthera’s natural beauty with the stunning views near the historic lighthouse. It’s a lovely walk (about 10–15 minutes each way) and completely free to explore on your own.

Since then, I’ve been keeping an eye on updates and even chatted with a Disney Cruise Line agent. As of late summer and early fall 2025, there’s still no formal, organized 5K at Lookout Cay that includes a medal. While Guests are welcome to run the trail at their own pace, Disney Cast Members have confirmed that the official event hasn’t launched yet.

That said, there are some exciting signs (literally!) that it’s getting closer. Photos of 5K signage and medals have started popping up online, and a few pieces of related merchandise were briefly displayed on the island earlier this year. It seems like Disney is waiting until the trail is fully ready before debuting the race officially. When I was there, Cast Members mentioned that the course still needed a few improvements, and I can see why! The trail is hot, mostly in full sun with rolling hills, paved stretches, and some packed sand. It’s beautiful but definitely a challenge in the tropical heat!

When we asked around at Lookout Cay and later at Guest Services onboard, the response was consistent...the medals aren’t being distributed yet, and they aren’t officially encouraging Guests to do a full 5K until the course is finalized. They’re hopeful this will change soon (possibly in the new year) but no confirmed date yet.

In the meantime, if you love a good “runcation” like me, you can still bring your running shoes and enjoy the trail on your own. I recommend wearing light gear, starting early, and having your non-running travel companions bring your swim gear on the tram so you can head straight to the ocean afterward, because that first dip in the ocean feels amazing!

I’m keeping my fingers (and running toes) crossed that we’ll both be adding that new Lookout Cay 5K medal to our collections on our December cruises, Kristin!

    Sea ya real soon,
    Eean
