I heard that La Nuba is fantastic! But I also heard that it is mucho bucks. I just want to be sure that it is worth it before we arrive. Is it worth it?

You heard correctly, Cirque du Soleil La Nouba is fantastic, and it is expensive. I saw this show for the first time in February of this year. My entire party, from my eight year old daughters to my 60+ year old parents was in awe of the show. Some of the acts were literally breathtaking.

However, I always find "is it worth it" to be a challenging question as people's interests and expectations vary so widely. Let me give you an example ... I am a big musical theater buff. I love that I live near Manhattan and have easy access to Broadway. To me, it is totally worth it to spend $120 a ticket to see live musical theater. (And if you're in the area I highly recommend the new Little Mermaid on Broadway. Ursula is divine!) On the other hand I have a dear friend who hates musicals. The entire concept of people breaking into song grates on him. He doesn't even like to see musicals if other people are paying and he's just along for the ride. So to him, even free is not "worth it."

As for La Nouba, I would certainly put the caliber of entertainment at or above a similarly priced Broadway show. There is a unique and nuanced combination of live comedy, music, dance, gymnastics, acrobatics, and, for lack of a better word, art. But if you don't like dance or acrobatics, then you might not be as impressed as someone else.

You can go to the Cirque website at cirquedusoleil.com. On the left you'll see a drop-down menu that says "Discover Our Shows." If you scroll down to La Nouba, you can read more about the show and see a few video clips. In my opinion, the videos are absolutely nothing in comparison to the live performance, but it could give you a taste of what to expect.
