I've heard about Disney choosing the "Family of the Day" Do they still do that? Does it happen in the four parks? What are the benefits of being chosen and what do I have to do if I want my family to be chosen?

Hi, Lizbeth! Each morning at Magic Kingdom Park is filled with excitement as Guests fill the area waiting on the most magical place on Earth to open. However, there is a bit of extra excitement as pixie dust swirls around to choose the first family to enter the park and become part of the Welcome Show! This past October, my family was that pixie-dusted family and I can tell you it is truly an unforgettable and wonderful experience we will always treasure.

There really is no magical formula that will guarantee your family to be chosen. The selection is usually done by different Cast Members in the area at some point well before the park opens. To increase your chances, I have always heard that families may want to arrive early, be enthusiastic, or even wear matching shirts or Mickey ears. On the day we were chosen, we found ourselves too excited to sit in our room another second, so we hopped on the monorail to head to Magic Kingdom Park and absorb a little of the atmosphere ... WAY earlier than we had ever arrived at the park! Within minutes, we were being whisked off to a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious meeting with some of our favorite Disney pals! We were given the opportunity to help Mickey Mouse and the Mayor of Main Street, U.S.A, open the park for the day, after which we were driven to Cinderella Castle for a few quick pictures. There may be a few special surprises along the way and I would hate to spoil the surprise for any lucky family, so I'll just keep that to myself ;)

Lizbeth, the other Disney theme parks and water parks do occasionally have a family assist in the opening ceremonies, but it is usually not as extravagant as the one at Magic Kingdom Park. You never know when the pixie dust may find you, so just go out there, have fun and enjoy every second you are there! I am sending you lots of magical wishes for an unforgettable trip!
