We will be heading to Disney World August 20th for my son's 4th birthday and also have a 4 month old daughter, we are worried about her being out in this hot florida sun so young and were considering having my husband stay at the hotel? Any suggestions?

    Hi Sam,

It will definitely be hot and sunny during most, if not all, of your August visit. No worries though, and no need for your husband to spend his vacation in a resort room, unless of course he wants too. We have traveled many times when our boys were that little and found great ways to keep them comfortable.

First be sure to use a stroller with a hood that can be used to shield her from the sun. We would also attach a separate sun umbrella to the stroller, These can be found for relatively small amount of money at a baby store like Babies R Us, We also used a clip on battery powered fan, that we attached to the stroller. Dress her in cool comfortable clothes and keep her well hydrated with her bottles.

Disney World also does a great job in helping you with the heat and sun. Most of Disney attractions are inside air-conditioned buildings and even the outside queues are typically covered and may even have fans. There are a number of air-conditioned shows where you can sit for twenty to forty minutes and relax. In addition there are plenty of counter service restaurants where you can pop in for a cool drink and some cool breezes.

If you happen to have a refrigerator/freezer in your resort room, we bring white washclothes and ziploc bagsĀ from home. We wet the clothes and freeze them over night. We then carry them to the parks in the bags and use them to wipe our faces and arms when we need a little break from the heat.

As for the hotel, we like to pop back to our resort after lunch for a nap or dip in the pool. This will give all of you a chance to cool off and rejuvenate yourself before venturing back out. Hope all of you have a great time together!
