We are heading to Disney with my son (17) & his friend & my daughter (11 mo.) as an early high school graduation celebration for the boys & my daughter's 1st trip. Any suggestions, considering the vast age difference?

Hi, Amy!  As a mom with children who's ages range from five to nearly 19 years, it can be tempting to want to do everything together.  There are things you will want your children together for, so you can have pictures of them enjoying a sibling moment at the most magical place on earth!  After all, it won't be long before your son is graduating and moving on with college, career, and his own family!  Do you need me to pass the Kleenex, or can I finish sniffling first?

I had a few things I wanted mine to do together - like It's a Small World and dining experiences.  But I learned to let go of the oldest, let her do her own thing with her friends, and just have her report in.  I take the little ones off to do little kid things.  This allowed my oldest to enjoy her freedom, do the attractions that her younger sisters were too small to do, and made it easier for me to say "I'm letting you go from now until noon, but meet us at Crystal Palace for lunch, then you can do It's a Small World with the girls, then have your own time until six for dinner."

Because your daughter is so young, a day in the theme park is really just a stroller ride for her, so if you want to stay with your son and don't mind waiting outside a number of attractions that the little one can't do, that might work as well, although it keeps you from doing things while the boys are riding things like Space Mountain or Splash Mountain.  I just think teens like to have some of their own space.

Cherish the moments so you'll have the memories, and have a magical vacation!
