We are heading out for Disney end of August. We have already made dining reservations but wanted to find out what restaurants are vegetarian friendly.

Hi, Neema! Your family will be right in the middle of all the magic very soon! I am also a vegetarian and have eaten in many of the restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort, so I'm happy to share my vegetarian dining experiences with you and also give you some tips.

First, be sure to note on all your dining reservations (for table-service restaurants) that you have a special dietary request. If you plan to call Disney Dining at 407-WDW-DINE (407-939-3463) to make your reservations, just ask the Cast Member to note your request. If you make your reservations online on the Walt Disney World Resort Dining Reservations page, check off "Other" in the "Add a Special Request" section. For some reason, Disney places vegetarian and vegan dietary needs in the same category as no sugar added, low fat and low sodium ("lifestyle dietary needs") even though for many vegetarian/vegan Guests this is a religious dietary request similar to a Kosher meal request. When you arrive at the restaurant, let the host/hostess know that you would like to speak with a manager or the chef to discuss the options for vegetarians. I have found that the servers' knowledge of the vegetarian options available varies quite a bit from restaurant to restaurant, so I prefer to speak with a manager or the chef directly.

I see from your previous questions that your girls are 5 and 7 years old, so I'm sure you'll want to do some Character dining with your little princesses! The absolute best Character meal for vegetarians is lunch at Tusker House (Animal Kingdom) featuring Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy. I highly recommend the Spiced Tandoori Tofu, Tunisian Couscous Salad and Vegetable Samosa -- they are amazing! For a Princess dining experience, I have found in my personal experience that Akershus Royal Banquet Hall (Norway Pavilion in Epcot) to be the most vegetarian friendly. Try the delicious Mushroom Stuffed Pasta at Akershus!
