We are headed to the Wilderness Lodge Villas in February. My 7 year old son is looking forward to the water slide, but can't yet swim. Do you know how deep the pool is at the end of the water slide at the Wilderness Lodge?

I just got home a few days ago from a stay at the Wilderness Lodge. I love that place!

The water at the bottom of the WL slide (and all the WDW resort slides) is about mid-chest high on me (I'm 5' 6"). When my kids were 7 years old they could not comfortably stand at the end of the waterslides. And additional issue is that kids come down the slide quite quickly. It's easy for them to get turned around in the tumult. However, these are not reason for you to avoid the slide. My kids started going on the WDW resort water slides at about age four and LOVE them. Here are two things that work for us:

    - Get a life vest. These are available to borrow for free at all the Disney resorts. (At some of the hotels you may have to leave a drivers license or credit card on file, but this will be returned to you when the vest is returned.) If there are not vests available at the pool, check near the watersports or boat rental area at the hotel. The vests are a great confidence booster to anyone with swimming issues.

    - Be a "spotter" for your child. When my kids were small, my husband would accompany them to the top of the slide and I would wait at the bottom of the slide to catch them as they came down. The lifeguard will not let you stand directly in front of the slide, but even if you are a few feet to the side, you can get to your child quickly at the bottom.

    Have fun at the pool!
