We are headed to Disney World for our first time. We have several character dining reservations. Is it typically for girls to wear princess dresses to the dining experience? Thanks so much.

    Hi Latondria,

There are several types of character dining experiences at Walt Disney World. Some feature Mickey and other classic Disney characters, while some feature princesses.

There is absolutely no requirement that children dress up for any character meal, but many girls do choose to wear princess clothing to the princess meals. I'd say that somewhere in the neighborhood of 50% of girls ages 2 to 8 will be wearing a princess dress to a princess meal.

The princess meals are Cinderella's Royal Table at the Magic Kingdom, Akershus at Epcot, and the dinner service at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian. If you're eating there and your daughter wants to wear a gown, then she'd fit right in. Dress up clothes are much less common at the other character meals. Very few girls will be in gowns at Chef Mickey's.

I've taken my own daughters to the princess meals many times. They've loved it, but never chose to wear princess dresses. It's really just a matter of personal preference. Do whatever makes your family comfortable.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
