Hi there, Amber!
I'm so glad you decided to come see us again here at planDisney! How fun that you have a summer vacation to The Most Magical Place on Earth on the horizon.
Park hopping is one of my favorite ways to see all of the magic that Walt Disney World Resort has to offer, and I'm especially fond of hopping between Magic Kingdom Park and EPCOT because it allows me to embark on a sightseeing journey aboard the
Monorail.
Although it is rare, occasionally Walt Disney World Resort theme parks reach capacity and become unavailable for park hopping. This actually happened to us for the first time just last week. We helpfully received a notification alerting us to the update in the
My Disney Experience mobile app, so we would have been able to adjust our plans accordingly if necessary.
Now, I'm not sure what type of reservation you are referring to, theme park or dining, so I'm happy to share Walt Disney World Resort's policies on reentry for both!
- Theme Park Reservations: If your ticket type requires a theme park reservation, I just confirmed with a helpful Cast Member that Guests are allowed to reenter the theme park for which they hold a reservation, even if the park is at capacity and closed for general park hopping. For example, a Guest who holds a reservation and begins their day at Magic Kingdom Park but hops to EPCOT for lunch at Space 220 Restaurant and receives a notification that Magic Kingdom is at capacity while they are there will still be allowed to reenter the park because their park reservation accounts for them in the capacity.
- Dining Reservations: Since, per Walt Disney World Resort policy, dining reservations do not guarantee access to a park and Park Hopper availability may change daily, Guests with date-based theme park tickets that do not require a theme park reservation are not guaranteed reentry when exiting a theme park. This means that if a theme park reaches capacity, Guests may be denied reentry even if they hold a dining reservation or were in the theme park earlier the same day.
Although a theme park reaching capacity is rare, there is precedent, so I appreciate that you are looking to gather all of the pertinent information as you plan. If you need any clarification or have further questions, feel free to
stop back by. I'm always happy to help!
Hakuna Matata,
Lizzie
