I am having Bariatric surgery in October 2012. My family is taking a trip to Walt Disney World in January 2013. I will have very strict dietary needs. Have you heard of any restaurants allowing for this kind of dietary restriction?

Hi, Nanette!  There are a couple of us Moms who have had gastric bypass surgery, so we've done Walt Disney World with bariatrically altered insides.  Rest assured that the crack culinary teams you will find at Walt Disney World are prepared for just about anything you can throw at them!

When you make your dining reservations for table service meals, have them note it on your reservations that you have special dietary concerns.  Most of the time, a member of the culinary crew will be brought to your table to go over what your requirements are and how they can best adapt the menu for you.  I've also had chefs escort me through the buffets to help me better understand what buffet items would work for my gastrically challenged self.

If your surgeon has a card that validates your surgery, bring that with you.  My first trip after gastric bypass was just 10 days post-op, and I was still on a fully liquid diet.  It is up to the discretion of each individual restaurant, but the Garden Grill charged me only a $10 "entertainment fee", and on another trip not long after I was back on solid food, Hollywood and Vine charged me a child's price for the buffet.

Counter service can be a bit trickier, but even there, you can ask them to leave off bread from burgers or chicken, and I always found soup to be my best friend.

    Have an absolutely wonderful vacation!
