I haven't been able to find much information on the Magic Kingdom opening ceremony. I know they pick a family at random to help open the park. Do you have any tips that might help our family's chances of getting picked? Thanks so much!

    Hi Kim,

The opening ceremony at Magic Kingdom is a perfect way to start your day. We love hearing that train whistle blow and haveing that first glimpse of Mickey and his friends welcoming us to Magic Kingdom. The ceremony incldes the many of the Disney pals, the Main Street entertainers and yes a family of the day.

There is no official word on how this family is selected, but I will tell you it is hard to come by. My best guess is that it is a very random process that involves being in the right place at the right time. I would imagine that occasionally the family of the day may be there as a special guest of Disney World, for example a Make a Wish family. Often I think it involves just being yourself, a family having fun at Disney World, and being in the exact location where the cast members are looking when the time has come. The only hint I can think of is to arrive early if you are trying to be selected.

Lots of pixie dust that it will be your lucky day, and if not that is ok, you will still be in the happiest place on earth, with those you love! Enjoy!
