What happens if I buy an individual lightning lane with a gift card and the ride shuts down and they want to give me a refund?

    Hi Ronald,

Welcome to planDisney! I'm happy to help answer all your Lightning Lane Pass questions.

I found myself in a similar predicament earlier this month when Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind experienced a delayed opening. A group of my fellow panelists purchased a Lightning Lane Single Pass to experience this incredible attraction together, but unfortunately, it was not available during our scheduled return window.

Thankfully, the attraction was up and running a short time later and we were all issued a pass to experience it any time that it was operational that day. Several of my panel pals high-tailed it to save the galaxy as soon as we noticed it was available on the My Disney Experience Mobile App. However, I had a pretty stacked day with an afternoon Behind the Seeds tour followed almost immediately by a group dinner at Topolino's Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera, and knew I wouldn't be able to assist Rocket, Gamora, Groot, and friends in their quest at any other time. Side note, one of these days I will learn to not overbook myself, but this day was not the day.

I reached out to a Cast Member via the app's chat feature to explain my predicament and request a refund. Note that these purchases are usually non-refundable, but they were able to assist and issued a refund to my original form of payment. In my case, it was returned to my credit card, but the same should apply to any Disney Gift Cards used to purchase a Lightning Lane pass. I recommend hanging on to any gift cards until after your trip is complete in case you end up with returned funds. I typically log them at disneygiftcard.com before my trip, which allows me to transfer balances between cards as needed and combine multiple cards up to $1,000.

Ronald, I hope this puts you at ease. I'll cross my fingers that you don't experience any attraction issues during your visit, but know that you can stop by Guest Relations or visit the Guest Experience Team (stationed under umbrellas throughout the parks) should you require assistance.

Please come back and see us again with more planning questions as you prepare for your next visit.

    Magic and memories,
    Amy
