Hey There, Hi There, Ho There, Taylor!
I’m so happy to welcome you to planDisney! How exciting that you’re planning a
summertime vacation to Walt Disney World Resort with a large group. Trips like that can be so special, especially when you’re traveling with family and friends and creating memories together. My family often plans multi-generational Disney vacations, and when we travel, our group usually includes about 12 people. Just like you, I tend to be the
planner for everyone…keeping track of the details, organizing plans, and making sure everything runs smoothly so everyone can relax and enjoy the magic!
It’s great that you’re planning to purchase
Lightning Lane passes for your time in the parks. They’re one of the best ways to make the most of your day by spending less time waiting in standby lines and more time enjoying attractions.
Since you’ll be staying at Walt Disney World Resort, you’ll be able to purchase your Lightning Lane selections 7 days before your check-in date, beginning at 7:00 AM Eastern Time in your
My Disney Experience app.
However, because the other two members of your party are arriving four days later, their Lightning Lane booking window will open 7 days before their own check-in date, not yours.
I’ve run into this exact situation on trips with my own family, and here’s what worked well for us. When the first booking window opened, I went ahead and secured Lightning Lane return times for the group that was already eligible. Then, when the second group’s booking window opened a few days later, I looked for times that were as close as possible to the first group’s selections. Even if the return times aren’t identical, you can often find overlapping windows that still allow everyone to experience the attraction together.
The good news is that once both groups have their Lightning Lane selections, you can always go back into the app and modify the return times based on availability. Sometimes a quick refresh or adjustment can help line everything up even better for the whole group.
I also wanted to mention a really fun perk you’ll receive by staying at a Disney Resort hotel. On your check-in day, you’ll get
complimentary water park admission, which is such a great way to kick off your vacation. I especially love this benefit during the summertime. It's the perfect way to cool off, relax, and start the trip with a splash before diving into the parks!
Taylor, I hope this has been helpful, and you have the best trip! If any additional questions pop up, you’re always welcome as can be here at planDisney!
Magical Wishes,
Kami
