Our grocery store offers gas points when you purchase gift cards. (Disney, Visa, Amex) We are planning a cruise for next year and feel it's a great way to take advantage of the program. Can they be used on board or loaded into our room keys?

Welcome aboard! I'm so glad your grocery store offers fuel points when you buy gift cards, as this can equal big savings for you! My grocery store does this too, and I fully take advantage of this opportunity to save money before we set sail with Disney Cruise Line. While it's not exactly a discount on the cruise itself, we all need gas for the car, so by saving money on fuel by paying for our cruise using Disney Gift Cards instead of a credit card, I see it as a discount on the trip itself!

The best way to do this is to purchase Disney Gift Cards from your grocery store when they offer the best fuel points. For example, my store always offers double fuel points on gift cards, but at times, they run promotions of triple or quadruple fuel points on gift cards. That's the time to buy! In fact, this weekend, I purchased enough Disney Gift Cards to pay off the balance of our next cruise and got quadruple fuel points for doing so! Now I'll be saving $2.00 off per gallon when I fill up a few times next month! Wow!

I call Disney Cruise Line (or my travel agent) and use the gift cards to pay for the cruise fare, either all at once or little by little before it is due. In addition, once the fare is paid off, I buy more Disney Gift Cards to use toward our onboard stateroom account. Then, when we use our Key To The World card onboard to charge extras like Port Adventures, alcoholic beverages, adult dining or spa treatments, it comes off the credit we've already put on our account. The ship is cashless, so your Key To The World card will be the only way to pay for purchases onboard. The gift shops onboard do accept Disney Gift Cards, however. Feel free to bring a Disney Gift Card or two to add to your account on the ship if you don't do so before the cruise. Guest Services is happy to add that to your account onboard.

I hope that helps and that you find you'll save some money on gas as you pay for your cruise! Let me know how else I can help!
