Hi all! Great forum! Planning trip for 2nd wk Aug. Planning 1 TS + 1 QS each day, + 1 sig and 1 char. I read through all the discussions, compared menu prices, and really want to do the DDP, but I'm just not seeing the value. What am I missing? Thanks!

Hi, Alan!  I think the actual value in the dining plan really depends on your family's dining needs.  Since my gastric bypass surgery, our family has changed the way we eat, and the dining plan isn't as important now that we tend to share meals more often.  We end up with credits left over and uneaten desserts with our meals.

One of the best features of having the dining plan, however, is that it allows you to better budget for your meals.  I know we have often set a strict budget for dining, and the longer we are into our trip, we have had times where we've opted not to do a meal we had booked because we had overspent on other meals during the trip.  With the dining plan, it gives you a precise dollar amount for most of your food budget, and it allows you to enjoy some restaurants that you may second guess by the end of your vacation.

I know many people who have more than justified the cost based solely on how much they typically spend per meal.  There are websites that you can Google that will show you how to get the most bang for your dining plan buck.  But there is a lot to be said for knowing before you go what your meal budget is.

    Have a great vacation!
