We are Grandparents taking our sophisticated 11 year old grandson on his/ our 3rd Disney Cruise this summer on the Magic 12 day Mediterranean Cruise. Please tell me the average age of children on this ship ? Hoping it is with a lot in his age group.

Welcome back, Norma! I'm so thrilled to hear that you will be taking your (very lucky!) grandson on the Disney Magic in the Mediterranean this summer! I was fortunate enough to be with Disney Cruise Line in Europe this past summer and had the time of my life in some of those ports!

Not only will this be a fun trip, but a very educational one for your grandson. While I can't guarantee the average age of the children on the ship, as it varies for each sailing based on the families that book that particular cruise, I can tell you that you can certainly expect quite a few children in the 11 - 14 year old age group. Those kids have the enjoyment of being able to participate in Edge, the tween club onboard. There, the counselors will lead them in a variety of exciting activities and events. On the Mediterranean cruises, they really step it up a notch with the activities relating to the particular ports that you'll be visiting. For example, before the ship docks in Naples, kids get to learn about the physics of a volcano, build their own and watch it erupt. Then, families can book a Port Adventure taking them to Pompeii's Mt. Vesuvius to really bring that learning to life! Pretty amazing, don't you think?

Another of my favorite things about the European cruises with Disney is that children will receive an activity guide each day with games, puzzles and activities about that day's port (there are two versions: one for younger kids and one for older kids). This is a great thing to throw in your day bag so your grandson has something educational (but really fun and Disney-themed) to keep him busy on the rides to and from your Port Adventures!

I hope that information helps as you look forward to setting sail in the Mediterranean this summer, Norma! Keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog for a series of Disney European Cruise videos that will be out soon. Happy planning!
