Are golf carts a must have for FW with no car? DH, myself, DS(17), and DD(5) staying 10/10-10/16 spending 5 days at theme parks. Hate to waste $ for cart to just sit there. How long does it take for internal buses to get you to the marina?

    Hi Amy,

We stayed at Fort Wilderness twice this year, and while it would have been convenient to have the golf cart, we opted to spend the money on other activities and did not rent one. I was very concerned over the availability and use of the internal buses, but was pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy they were to move around the many amenities at the resort.

The internal buses were clearly marked and were easy to take to the main guests areas. On average the buses ran about every 15 minutes and I can not recall waiting longer than 10 to 15 minutes. The hardest part we had was in the late evening hours, after returning from the parks, the boys were so tired and did not want to walk from the bus stop to our cabin so it would have been nice to have a golf cart so we could drive right to our cabin door.

In trying to decide, think about how much time you will be spending at Fort Wilderness.  We did not spend an entire day at Fort Wilderness. If it is part of your plans to spend a whole day moving around to the various locations, you may want to consider renting a golf cart for at least that day. It will be much easier and save you a good deal of time if you are not having to wait for internal buses throughout the day.

The other thing is the time of the year you are visiting. The Halloween season is quite popular amongst the returning campers , and many decorate the campsites with elaborate displays. You may want to use a golf cart to drive around and enjoy the decorations.

You do not have to rent the cart for your entire stay, so if you do decide to stick around the Campgrounds for the whole day, rent it for just the one day. Otherwise you should be fine utilizing the internal buses. Wishing you an amazing trip!
