Hey there, hi there, Travis! Welcome to LOSER-ville! Congratulations on this huge step.
I had gastric bypass 14 years ago. When I look back at my answers to questions from then, I see how much things have changed at
Walt Disney World and how they handle folks like us.
Your mileage may vary, Travis, but this is my most recent experience. There are an awful lot of
Disney dining experiences, and not all restaurants are owned by Disney. You may find rules vary. The restaurants don't necessarily give "weight" to the physician's cards like they used to, however, most restaurants have no problem with you ordering from the kid's menu. If you are at an all you care to enjoy meal or a meal served family-style, they do still charge the adult price. It's just too difficult for your server to monitor how much anyone is eating.
Here's what I would do, Travis.
Browse the menus before you go, and make reservations where you can comfortably eat. Note on your reservation that you have dietary concerns, and when you arrive, ask for a member of the culinary team to talk with you. They can sometimes make a kid-sized portion of an adult meal or alter an adult meal to be more pouch-friendly. Check out appetizers and soups before committing to a meal on the kids' menu. Although most restaurants have decent kids' meals, you may find an appetizer more to your grown-up tastes (I'm totally talking about the sea scallops and pork belly at the
Hollywood Brown Derby).
Let them work with you, advocate for what you need, and I hope you have a magical culinary journey!
Anna
