For future planning for next year, how soon after Thanksgiving do Christmas decorations/lighting go up and how long after Christmas do they stay up?

The exact dates that the holiday decorations are up at Walt Disney World vary slightly from year to year, but there are some historical patterns that you can use as a guideline.

The Christmas decorations are ALWAYS up BEFORE Thanksgiving. Generally the decorations start to appear around Veterans Day and are totally complete by Thanksgiving. In 2009, I arrived at WDW on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and saw that everything was completely decorated.

All of the decorations will remain up until the end of the week that includes New Years Day. Some decorations will be taken down around then. For example, food related decorations such as the Grand Floridian gingerbread house are taken down more rapidly. However, other items will remain up for longer. I was in the Magic Kingdom during Martin Luther King weekend 2010 (mid-January) and the Magic Kingdom tree was still up.

Enjoy your holiday visit to Walt Disney World.
