Hi there, Monica! Thanks so much for sailing by planDisney with your question!
I’m a big fan of winter cruising too! In fact, I’ll be setting sail on the Disney Destiny this December! As someone who deals with motion sickness myself, I’m happy to share what I’ve experienced.
In general, staterooms located at the front (forward) of the ship can feel a bit more movement than those midship, especially when you’re cruising during the winter months in the Caribbean, when the seas can sometimes be a little choppy. Midship and lower-deck rooms tend to be the most stable spots if you’re sensitive to motion.
That said, I’ve actually stayed in a forward stateroom before, on Deck 9 of the Disney Wish last winter, and I found the gentle rocking kind of soothing at night. I definitely noticed the motion more when I was in places like the dining rooms, but once I was back in my room, the movement actually helped lull me to sleep!
To be on the safe side, I always wear a transdermal patch behind my ear that I get from my doctor before cruising. It works wonders for me. I’ve also had friends who’ve done fine with crackers, green apples, and ginger ale from
room service, or even Sea-Bands and over-the-counter options like Bonine or Dramamine (there are non-drowsy versions too). If this is something you’re concerned about, it’s a great idea to chat with your doctor ahead of time about what might work best for you. And if you forget anything,
Guest Services or the
Health Center onboard can usually help. I’ve grabbed motion sickness tablets from Guest Services before and always keep a couple in my purse just in case.
Wishing you smooth seas and magical memories this December, Monica!
"Sea" ya real soon,
