My friends and I are taking our children to WDW. Concidering the Carribean Beach Resort. 5 adults and 9 children. Would this be a good place to stay? Is it far from the parks? Suggestions for other places? Value resorts look too cheap...wrong?

    Helen,

I liked the Caribbean Beach Resort (CBR).  The themeing is nice and the grounds are lovely.  My daughter really liked the playgrounds on the sandy beach, and my husband and I enjoyed lounging on a hammock watching her play.  There was a nice bench overlooking the water where I took my morning coffee and geared up for the park day ahead.

The drawbacks to this resort are size related.  It's very large, so it's possible that your room will be located far from the main building.  Also because of the size, we found the food court to be very busy.  This was a non-issue for us because we generally eat elsewhere, and it would not stop me from staying there again.

CBR is not far from the parks - not farther than any other moderate at least.  Deluxe resorts will get you closer, but moderates all require the use of Disney's bus system.  The closest to a park you can get is by staying at Port Orleans, which will put you near Downtown Disney.  Port Orleans-French Quarter is also a smaller resort, if that is of concern to you.

As for value resorts being too cheap...  It's really a matter of personal preference and what works for you.  They are not a good fit for my family.  The rooms are small and very basic - not even a coffee maker is included.  No coffee pot is a deal-breaker for me!  :)  The pools do not have water slides, there are not multiple bus stops like there are at the moderates, and they are much larger.  But if you will be spending all your time at the parks and you just want a place to lay your head, then they will be just fine.  They are not 'chintzy' by any means, just no frills, and the themeing is fun, especially for kids.  We stayed at All-Star movies and my then 2-year-old loved the giant dalmatian!

No matter where you decide to stay you will be at Disney, and that is always a beautiful thing!
