My friends and I want to plan a trip to Disney World for a week in January or December. When is a good time to go with fre crowds! We are in our early 20's. This is my 14th time going to Disney and I can never find the right time without a crowd!

Hi, Robert!  It's not easy to find a time to travel to Walt Disney World and not find some kind of crowd, but the two months that you mention are generally lighter than other times - depending, of course, when in December you want to go.

My rule of thumb to find lighter crowds is when kids are going back to school - whether that's back after summer break, spring break, or Christmas break.  I think parents are less likely to take their kids out of school at the start of the year or the start of a new term, so after Labor Day in September is pretty stress free, after the holidays in January you'll find light crowds, and in the early part of December, between Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays is pretty good.  Keep in mind, January has one long school holiday weekend, with Martin Luther King day, and there is a marathon at Walt Disney World early in the month that draws a good crowd.

My favorite time of year is the week after Thanksgiving.  It used to be a very quiet week, although I have seen it gain in popularity over the years.  The good thing, though, is that you get to take advantage of the wonderful holiday offerings throughout the theme parks and resorts, and it is truly a magical time to be in Walt Disney World.

I hope you find a time that works for you!
