Hiya Diana!
Thanks for running by planDisney! I just completed the Disneyland Half Marathon this past January and it was such a unique and fun experience. Your friend is going to have an amazing time!
It's so kind of you to want to help your friend go the distance during the race. However,
runDisney policy is that you must be a registered athlete to enter participant-only areas. I'm sorry! But there are some other great ways that you can help her prepare to have a magical race!
I bet your friend would appreciate a running buddy while she trains for the race, especially on longer runs! Preparation makes a huge difference on race day, believe me. You could even map out some practice routes around the resort area and then grab a snack in the Downtown Disney District to celebrate your hard work!
Make a fun playlist to help the miles go by faster. I have a specific playlist for half marathons that has just enough songs to get me to the finish line. My music choices are pretty strategic; I always have some good, inspirational songs around the times when I know I'll be getting tired. There are some great
playlists and
suggestions on the runDisney blog, too!
On race day you can be the cheer squad! As the event gets closer runDisney will provide guides for runners and spectators which will tell you where you can hang out to cheer on the runners. One of my favorite parts of the race in January was seeing the same people cheering all over the course! They would wave and shout in one location, and then a few miles later they would magically pop up again! I thought these dedicated supporters were so sweet, and I'm sure their family and friends appreciated them very much. They gave me energy and I didn't even know them! You can also meet up with your friend at the finish line for hugs and photos. The energy is so amazing, I've really never experienced anything else like it.
Your friend might be running on her own, but I doubt she will ever be alone! It's pretty common for runners with a similar pace to join up for encouragement and support. And she'll have you to cheer her on, Diana! I hope you both enjoy the event!
Keep moving forward!
Amanda
