I have a friend that is planning on traveling with us to Disney. He is an above the knee amputee and has a wheelchair, but he is wondering what rides would he be able to ride on/what rides is he not allowed to ride on?

Hey there, Abigail! I'm so happy to welcome you to planDisney!

Planning ahead is especially important when experiencing Walt Disney World as a wheelchair user, and having the right information can really transform your trip. Understanding which attractions best suit your needs helps everything feel smoother and more enjoyable...and that's where I'm happy to help! I've been navigating the parks as a wheelchair user since childhood, and it truly makes my heart so happy to share what I've learned to help other Guests create magical memories of their own.

There are lots of ways Guests using mobility devices can experience attractions at Disney World, so let's walk through them together. Many rides offer Wheelchair Access Vehicles (WAVs), which means your friend can stay in his wheelchair for the entire attraction if that's most comfortable.

Some attractions feature Transfer Access Vehicles (TAVs), designed for special seating to make getting on and off simpler for Guests who can transfer. Others may require transferring from a wheelchair directly into the ride vehicle.

For the easiest planning, I highly recommend checking out the Services for Guests with Mobility Disabilities section in the My Disney Experience app. It's incredibly helpful both before your trip and while you're in the parks. From the home screen, tap the three horizontal lines in the bottom right corner, scroll to "Accessibility and Health Services," then select "Services for Guests with Mobility Devices." You'll find tons of useful information tailored to accessibility needs right there.

Abigail, I hope this has been helpful as you plan your trip. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to me directly. Thanks so much for stopping by planDisney!
